Susanne Ahmari
Susanne Ahmari, MD, PhD, is a practicing psychiatrist and neuroscientist with expertise in translating findings between humans and model systems. She is a trailblazer in using advanced technology to precisely monitor and manipulate circuits to uncover the neural substrates of obsessive compulsive disorder. Dr. Ahmari was also a Program Director at Wellcome Leap, where she developed and led Multi-Channel Psych, a $50M program to deliver new treatment approaches for depression.
Dr. Ahmari earned her MD/PhD from Stanford and completed her residency in Psychiatry at Columbia. She then established the Translational OCD Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh in 2013 to conduct interdisciplinary research that will ultimately lead to better treatments for patients.
Her translational neuroscience achievements have been recognized by the McKnight Scholar Award, NIMH BRAINS Award, A.E. Bennett Research Award, MQ Fellows Award, Burroughs Wellcome Fund Award, and ACNP Eva King Killam Research Award. She sits on the scientific advisory board of the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (NARSAD), ORCHARD, the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), and ARIA.
