Caroline Pantazis
Caroline Pantazis is the Associate Director of Research Operations at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS), where she works across workstreams to organize and leverage knowledge to support innovation and decision-making. Before joining CAS, Dr. Pantazis served as the lead scientific project manager at the Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias at the National Institute on Aging, where she coordinated and managed large-scale, collaborative research projects in the neurodegenerative disease research space.
Dr. Pantazis completed her postdoctoral training at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, where she focused her research on the neurobiology of addiction and motivated behaviors. She earned her PhD in Neuroscience from Rutgers University and her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Hamilton College.
Devin Snyder
Dr. Devin Snyder is the Associate Director of Communications at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS), where she ensures that CAS’s brand and values are accurately reflected externally. She is passionate about effectively sharing knowledge with scientific and lay audiences. As such, Dr. Snyder utilizes her knowledge base to design resources for members of CAS-managed programs, while also leading strategies for disseminating information about CAS initiatives with external audiences.
Prior to joining CAS, Dr. Snyder served as a project manager for a multidisciplinary, cross-institutional research team primarily based out of UC Berkeley. Successful management of this highly collaborative effort relied on a thorough understanding of project scope, timeline, budget, and deliverables while maintaining open communication with all team members and stakeholders.
Dr. Snyder earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Point Loma Nazarene University and a doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Medicine.
Richard Ha
Richard Ha is the Associate Director of Research Administration at the Coalition for Aligning Science, where he oversees operational workflows for the Coalition’s grants administration, namely in Aligning Research to Impact Autism (ARIA).
Before joining the Coalition, Richard most recently served as the Director of External Programs at The New York Stem Cell Foundation, where he led the administration of the scientific grantmaking portfolio in stem cell and neuroscience research, and also expanded the Foundation’s flagship STEM education and outreach programs for students in New York City.
Richard earned his MPA in Nonprofit Management from CUNY Baruch College and his BA in Neuroscience from Columbia University.
Shelby Johnson
Dr. Shelby L. Johnson is a Program Officer at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS), where she leverages her expertise in neuroscience and early drug discovery to support the ARIA initiative. Dr. Johnson is passionate about driving innovative science forward to advance therapies for patients rapidly.
Before joining CAS, Dr. Johnson was a Senior Scientist at Sage Therapeutics, a company committed to drug discovery for neurological disorders. In this role, Dr. Johnson served as the pharmacology representative supporting projects from early target validation through lead optimization.
Dr. Johnson earned her PhD in Neuroscience with a focus in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Rhode Island. Her research focused on investigating natural products and repurposed pharmaceuticals for efficacy in neurodegenerative disease models—namely, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Johnson completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, where she explored the potential role of somatic mutations in neurological disorders.
Katina Calakos-Mano
Dr. Katina Calakos-Mano is a Program Officer at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS), where she supports data operations for the Aligning Research to Impact Autism (ARIA) initiative. Dr. Calakos-Mano strives to leverage her expertise in scientific data to improve the lives of individuals affected by neurological conditions. Before joining CAS, Dr. Calakos-Mano was a Staff Scientist for the Simons Searchlight natural history registry at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Simons Foundation. Her work contributed to the success of collaborative, open science research projects and maximized the potential of data to unlock scientific discoveries. Dr. Calakos-Mano earned her BA in Neuroscience & Behavior from Barnard College and her PhD in Neuroscience from Yale University.
Robert Thibault
Dr. Robert Thibault is an Open Science Consultant at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS). He aims to make scientific research more trustworthy, reproducible, open, and efficient. He earned a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from McGill University, where he led a field-wide consensus to establish research standards for the field of neurofeedback.
Before joining CAS, Dr. Thibault completed postdoctoral training with leaders in the field of Open Science at the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford University (METRICS) and the UK Reproducibility Network at the University of Bristol. He has published extensively on how to improve scientific research, with a particular interest in study registration, statistical practice, and innovative research workflows. In 2022, he was awarded the Open Science Innovator Prize from the Center for Open and Reproducible Science at Stanford University.
Matt Lewis
Matt Lewis, PhD, is a Program Officer at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS), where he serves as Program Lead for the Neurosensing & Neuromodulation (NS/NM) and Human Developmental Neuroscience (HDN) Research Hubs within the Aligning Research to Impact Autism (ARIA) initiative. His work spans scientific facilitations, data infrastructure, and program management. He led the evaluation and selection of ARIA’s Data Coordinating Center, and helped author data transfer and governance frameworks that enable sharing of information within the initiative.
Matt also contributes to CAS’s broader portfolio through ASAP (Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s), where he oversees a partnership with CatalystNeuro to convert neurophysiology data into standardized NWB format for deposition in the DANDI Archive. His background in systems and computational neuroscience, with deep familiarity across neurophysiology modalities, informs his ability to bridge technical data infrastructure decisions with the scientific goals of the programs he manages.
Jessica Mazerik
Dr. Jessica Mazerik is the Associate Director of Data Operations at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS), where she applies her experience in building collaborative data ecosystems to support data strategy across the ARIA initiative. She brings expertise in leading data strategy and operations across large, diverse research networks to enable data transparency and interoperability. She is excited to build relationships across the ARIA initiative to facilitate the best outcomes for the reuse of data and future autism research.
Before joining CAS, Dr. Mazerik was the Program Director for the HEAL Data Ecosystem at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In prior positions at NIH in the Immediate Office of the Director and the Office of Data Science and Strategy, she implemented programs and policy focused on data management and sharing, artificial intelligence, and data science training for biomedical researchers. She served as a program officer at the National Eye Institute, where she ran a prize competition aimed at developing new 3D organoid models to study retinal degeneration, and at the National Cancer Institute, where her portfolio included research projects aimed at developing organoid cell lines from human cancer cells and securely sharing matched genomic and clinical data.
Dr. Mazerik has a PhD in cell biology from Vanderbilt University and a BS in biology from Ohio State University.
Angie Barnard
Angie Barnard is an executive assistant and administrator at the Coalition for Aligning Science (CAS). Her primary role is to provide high-level support, problem-solving, and organization skills to CAS’ senior management and staff.
Before joining CAS, Angie worked as the office manager for LeeAgra, Inc., a farm equipment manufacturing company. Angie earned a bachelor’s from Pacific Lutheran University.
Sonya Dumanis
Dr. Sonya Dumanis is the COO of the Coalition for Aligning Science, where she provides strategic guidance on both the design and implementation phases of portfolio programs and mentors scientific staff across the initiatives under the Coalition’s management. She also serves as the Managing Director for Aligning Discoveries Across Psychedelic Therapies (ADAPT), Deputy Director of Aligning Research to Impact Autism (ARIA), and Managing Director of Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP).
Previously, Dr. Dumanis was the Vice President of Research and Innovation at the Epilepsy Foundation. While there, she oversaw the growth of the Epilepsy Therapy Project, an entrepreneurship incubator providing seed funding and mentorship to epilepsy startups, and the Epilepsy Innovation Institute, an innovation incubator tackling high-risk projects in the epilepsy space. She continues to co-direct the Epilepsy Startup Accelerator Course and serves as an advisor for the Diagnostics & Tracking Research Roundtable for Epilepsy.
Dr. Dumanis completed her postdoctoral training at both the Johns Hopkins University and the Max-Delbrück Center in Berlin, Germany. She earned her PhD in neuroscience from Georgetown University. She has authored numerous scientific articles and received a number of honors, including an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, a National Science Foundation fellowship, a national research service award from the National Institutes of Health, the Harold N. Glassman Award for best science dissertation at Georgetown University, and the Mark A. Smith prize from the Journal of Neurochemistry.
